Who doesn’t love a good burger? Honestly. It’s impossible not to. And our Egg-In-The-Hole Burger is as simple as it is tasty. Treat your tastebuds!
As the ancient proverb goes, ‘if you find yourself in a hole, keep digging and crack an egg into it.’ And who are we to disobey? This campfire Egg-In-The-Hole Burger is a winner for breakfast, lunch or dinner with an eggsplosion of liquid gold with every bite.
Let’s get crackin’.
Four (or more!)
- 500g beef mince
- 4 free-range eggs
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 red onion, sliced
- 1 head of lettuce, roughly torn
- 2 tomatoes, sliced
- Cucumber pickles
- Your favourite sauce
- Salt and pepper
- Place a large skillet over a medium-hot fire and drizzle in a good glug of olive oil.
- Using your hands, grab ¼ of the beef mince and shape it into a patty about 1cm thick. Repeat this process to make four burger patties.
- Place your patties onto a chopping board and use a knife or something circular to form a hole in the centre of the patty big enough to hold an egg yolk. Repeat this for all four patties.
- Place your patties onto the hot skillet, season with some salt and pepper and cook for 2 minutes until nicely browned on the bottom.
- Flip your patties, then crack an egg into the centre of each one. Continue to cook for 4-5 minutes, until the egg white has set.
- Place a slice of cheese over the top of each patty and cook for another minute, until the cheese has melted and coats the burger.
- Now let’s build our burger! Slice your burger buns in half and fill with lettuce, a cheesy, eggy beef patty, tomato, onion and pickles. Smother your chosen sauce all over that burg.
